reNEW YOUNG COMPOSERS’ WORKSHOP

June 2026

Create Your Music in a Professional Setting

We want to give you the best tools to create music, and one of our greatest assets is the space in which we get to work. Our workshop will be held on campus at the University of Nevada, Reno, where you will have access to many university spaces and resources.

The Electroacoustic Music Lab at the University of Nevada is one of many spaces that have been open to participant use in past workshops.

Hear Your Work Performed Live

The best feedback you can get is hearing your music played by live musicians! You will have daily sessions to receive feedback on your work from performers who are active professionals in the Reno-Tahoe area. On the final day of our workshop, those same players will perform your music at a public concert in Hall Recital Hall.

Participants will hear their music performed live by professional musicians in Hall Recital Hall.

What will I be learning?

Our intensive three-day schedule is aimed at preparing you to write music to be enjoyed live by your friends and family. Our teaching team will be working with you throughout the workshop to get your best ideas in front of our ensemble! Sessions will focus on:

  • using the music that you love to find your compositional voice

  • learning the fundamental tools of writing music, such as form and harmony

  • private and small group sessions for one-on-one feedback and attention
